Thank God for free stuff!

I was fortunate (unfortunate?) enough lately to be invited to indulge in a corporate suite for a night, while enjoying (tolerating?) a concert.

“Why unfortunate?” you may well ask.

No, really, you may.

I’m glad you asked.

Well, for one, I’m never going to be able to attend another concert without complaining about the seating in the “peasant’s” section.

Seriously people, wake up!

Do you realise the plushness, the softness, the wideness and the comfortable tushy-ness of the seats that They are seated on in those balconies above you?

This is class warfare, damnit!

But let’s forget about that until I finish talking.

The second thing that was unfortunate was the performance.

I was slightly excited when I found out that from our corporate suite, we would be enjoying the musical stylings of none other than Beyonce.

Beyonce!

I loved her when she was in the Dixie Chicks!

She… what? Oh, okay.

Destiny’s Second Cousin or some such group.

In any case, while I might not have been the biggest fan of Ms Beyonce, I was interested to see how much I could be entertained by one of the supposedly biggest entertainers in pop music.

Let me answer that question for you right here.

Not much.

I’ll admit, being an old fart may have contributed to not knowing many of the songs she started with.

Considering I haven’t been living under a rock though, I did know quite a few of her songs.

The concert started with a video clip.

She came out and danced in front of that video clip. Oh. And sang about half a dozen lines.

The crowd went absolutely bananas, so I figured it must have been a brilliant opening performance.

She followed this up with another video clip, while she went and got changed.

This seemed to happen quite a bit during the concert.

It was like being constantly put on hold. Live.

She sang a song on a piano.

Damn, the woman can sing!

This was looking promising!

Then we were put on hold again.

Finally, she started belting out one of those songs that even us old farts knew!

And stopped halfway through.

I was starting to get a little bored watching video clips at a concert.

What’s that line in the hit song she sings?

“If you like us then maybe you should sing for us”

I’ll have to admit here, there was one part of the night that impressed.

That made me sit up and really take notice.

That made the whole night worthwhile, if you will.

My outfit.
